The theme ‘PLASTIC PLASTIC EVERYWHERE’ – Breaking the Plastic Spell’ culminated with the ‘Plastic Game Changers’ Event organized by the students and the staff members of the school within the school premises. This theme revolved around plastic and its impact on the environment. The event urged the students to rethink before purchasing plastic items, as it can have a detrimental effect on the environment. The students created awareness in the form of informational stalls/booths with games and upcycled products.

The event aimed at providing opportunities for students to showcase their learning. It also intended to be a platform for sharing the experiences they had during the course of the module. Together with climate change, plastic pollution is one of the most challenging problems of our time. We get weekly news about the extent of the problem, with micro-plastics being discovered in the most remote parts of the planet and inside most diverse life forms. Here is a vivid discussion on ways to address the issue, and the best way to do it is to set some solid foundation on where we stand, how we got here, and what can be done.

Through this Module – PLASTIC PLASTIC EVERYWHERE! The students were introduced to the widely known kitchen sink example, leading them to think of effective solutions based on the principles of the 8Rs. As a continuous process of one visitor a month, this month, we had Dr. SANDIP SURYAKANT MASAYE, Assistant Professor, Polytechnic in Horticulture ACH, NAU, Paria, as the "Visitor of the Month." Students learnt that when they add oil colours to the water, they did not dissolve in the water but floated on it. These colours got absorbed on the paper, and this was the reason they got varied patterns on the paper.

Grade 3 & 4
In today’s session, students learnt about the non-Newtonian fluid. They conducted an experiment to understand that, when we mix baking soda, water, and wheat flour together, we can observe the properties of this fluid. Students also compared and analyzed which flour makes the best slime.

Grade 5 & 6
Students began today's session with a quick recap of the concept of density covered on Day 1. They then performed an experiment where they found out how applying pressure pushes things into the depth of water, and releasing the pressure makes it float back up.

Grade 7 & 8
Students had a blast during the recent reactivity experiments using household items. They mixed baking soda with vinegar, creating impressive eruptions that filled the room with excitement. The experiments sparked curiosity as students observed color changes when combining different substances. Working in teams, they discussed their observations, fostering collaboration and critical thinking. The laughter and enthusiasm were a testament to the joy of discovery in the classroom.

The students became familiar with the science-based concept of Solubility using lemon and watercolour, and observed the result of an experiment based on this concept using art.

Grade 3 & 4
The students of grade 3 & 4 learnt about the three states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. They conducted an experiment to understand that, when we mix a solid and liquid substance like baking soda and vinegar together, it results in a chemical reaction and produces carbon dioxide, which is a form of gas.

Grade 5 & 6
The students of Grade 5 & 6 explored the concept of density of liquids. They discovered how different liquids have different densities and how they affect their behaviour.

Grade 7 & 8
Students of Grade 7 and 8 performed reactivity experiments using everyday household items. These experiments offered fascinating glimpses into basic chemical principles and reactions. By combining common substances, such as baking soda, vinegar, and various food items, we could observe observable changes like fizzing, color shifts, or gas production. These simple experiments not only illustrated concepts like acidity and alkalinity but also engaged curiosity and promoted hands-on learning. Today, our young detectives got up close and personal with the brave men and women in uniform, learning about the various arms used by police officers, the functions of a jail, and interacting with police personnel and community members. Our students embarked on an exciting journey to the Waaree industry, where they discovered the fascinating process of solar panel manufacturing and their benefits. Starting with the factory's origin, they learned about the history and evolution of solar panels.

Next, they witnessed the making of solar panels through various machines, from cell production to module assembly. The students were amazed by the complexity and efficiency of the process. This hands-on experience will surely inspire their curiosity and passion for renewable energy.

The session was part of the Career Vision initiative by Podar School, supported by IEC, now in its 7th year of conducting Career Guidance and Assessment for grades IX to XII. We discussed vocational training programs and services designed to help students identify careers that align with their interests and strengths.

The session highlighted the importance of making decisions based on personal passions and abilities rather than following social media trends or peer influences. A Jumpstart Event includes activities carried out before a module begins, immersing students in the theme without directly revealing its content. These activities are designed to surprise students, capture their imagination, and generate curiosity about the upcoming theme. The goal is to engage every student from the onset and provide a common platform for shared experiences as they progress through the unit.

Following grade-wise activities were conducted for the upcoming theme:

  In this activity, students actively participated and voted on the material for a bag that is most beneficial for the environment.
• Grade 3 & 4: Caption this.
  Students were asked to look at a given picture and express their understanding of it, discussing whether it is good for them and the environment.
• Grade 5 & 6: What comes to your mind when you hear the word plastic?
  In this activity, students shared their thoughts on the word "plastic," discussing its advantages and disadvantages.

On Day 1, students were introduced to the concept of a growth mindset through the story of "Gary, the Giraffe." They learned to distinguish between fixed and growth mindsets through an engaging activity. On Day 2, students were encouraged to use the word "YET" in their daily statements to recognize the transformation in their thinking. By the end of the session, they applied their knowledge to create a growth mindset storybook.

Grade 3 & 4
On Day 1, students explored the growth mindset through a short story, learning to differentiate between fixed and growth mindsets. They concluded the session by understanding the value of developing a growth mindset. On Day 2, they learned about the word "yet" and its significance, grasping how this simple word can transform their understanding of challenges and help them achieve difficult tasks.

On Day 1, students identified the meaning of a growth mindset and understood the differences between growth and fixed mindsets. On Day 1, students engaged in a Ribbon Knot Activity to learn about growth and fixed mindsets. They created a detailed growth mindset action plan using a guided worksheet and contributed to a Growth Mindset class chart with their teacher's guidance.

To raise awareness about the dos and don'ts of earthquakes, a special assembly was conducted. A speech was given on earthquakes, and some students demonstrated informative acts on what to do if you’re indoors during an earthquake and what to do if you are in an open area.

The objective of making students aware of earthquake safety was further reinforced with a quiz, where students actively participated.

Comics have long been an effective visual tool for communicating ideas, thoughts, and stories. Whether as comic books or animated stories in the media, comics engage people of all ages.

The Comic Trivia Tournament aimed to encourage students to delve into their knowledge of their favorite comics while competing for their house. Students participated in a house-wise Comic Trivia Quiz competition, forming four teams of four students (one from each house) to compete against each other. Questions covered various aspects of comics, including characters, writers, settings, and other details, testing their knowledge of the comic world.

In this session, students learned about various comic elements such as panels and speech balloons. They recreated comic strips using elements like panels and dialogues.

Grade 3 & 4
Session 2: Students learned about inanimate subjects as comic characters. They drew their own imaginative characters on paper.

Grade 5 & 6
Session 2: Students studied comic elements by deconstructing a comic. Through an activity, they applied and evaluated the importance of these elements and learned about their impact by recreating an existing comic strip in pairs.

Grade 7 & 8
Session 2: Students learned about acclaimed international comics such as Garfield, Peanuts, and Calvin and Hobbes, as well as well-known Indian comics like Amar Chitra Katha, Tinkle comics, and Diamond Comics. They gained knowledge and explored the important elements of a comic, then applied this knowledge to complete a comic strip.

Today, we celebrated Panchayati Raj Day, marking the passing of the Constitution (73rd Amendment) Act, 1992, which institutionalized Panchayati Raj (local self-governance) in rural areas of India. We honor a cornerstone of Indian democracy—a system that enables communities to shape their own development. It serves as a testament to the strength of grassroots democracy and the beauty of collective decision-making.

To celebrate this day, a beautiful village was created on the school grounds, where our students presented an informative act. They discussed the problems faced by the local people in rural areas with a group of panchayat heads, who then provided solutions. This act illustrated the workings of Panchayati Raj to the students.

A Visitor of the Month Program was conducted by Podar International School, Vapi. The guest of the day was Mrs. Bhakti Gujjar Patel, a renowned mompreneur and self-taught baker. She completed her MBA in marketing, but her passion for entrepreneurship and baking always urged her to pursue her dreams.

To achieve her goals in the bakery business, she visited various places, attended exhibitions, and met numerous vendors, ultimately becoming a renowned baker. Her specialty lies in fondant work and unique cakes and flavors. The purpose of inviting her was to help students understand that with passion and determination, they can achieve their dreams.

She guided students on what steps to take if they chose baking as a profession and explained how they can turn their passion into a business. Mrs. Patel motivated students to become entrepreneurs and strive for self-independence. She also showcased her baking skills by demonstrating an easy recipe for biscuit pudding.
