A Field trip was organised with a theme on Myth Busters, a topic closely connected to history and its importance in the Integrated English Language as a part of learning. A Field tip was organised on Monday ,18th December,2023.
It is essential that a child learns what his/her surroundings have to offer. They can learn more about the past from historic monuments than what is offered in books. Grasping ability is enhanced in any child when they learn through observation. Podar International School believes that certain facts are best learned by seeing. A step in this initiative is taking children regularly on educational field trips. On the basis of the IE theme "Myth busters," our school arranged a field trip to Barkur temples. The students from Grades 1 to 8 were taken to the Barkur Batte Vinayaka temple and Jaina Basadi to see how beautifully temples were designed and built. Batte Vinayaka temple is located on the banks of River Sita, and this town is a group of three villages - Hosala, Hanehalli, and Kachoor. It is said that Barkur was earlier divided into a number of keris, each having a tank and multiple temples. At one point, there were as many as 365 temples here. However, today, what remains of them are just ruins. Most temples that are functional here are dedicated to Lord Ganesha. With sloping terracotta-laden roofs lending them a distinct rustic charm, most of these temples date between the ninth and 12th centuries. Students were happy to see each sculpture with its uniqueness and wondered how it is so cool inside the temple even though it is so sunny outside. We also visited the historic place Katthale Basadi believed to be built during the Pandya (Bhuthala Pandya) rule. In one of the basadis, there is believed to be a tunnel. In one of the structures, we can see the removal proof of 24 Thirthankars' idols. Later, a Shiva Linga was also installed. Now, these monuments come under the Archaeological Survey of India. The structure dates back to the Vijayanagar empire. Several parts of the basadi have collapsed but still look amazing. The teachers provided them with a lot of information about the temple and also how it gives us a vital insight into human history and civilization. It was a fun-filled learning trip, enjoyed by the children.
